Public school service in Avondale is split by grade level among several districts. Getting around

Avondale is located on Interstate 10, west of Phoenix. The city is bordered by Goodyear to the west and Litchfield Park nearby. Hotel and travel listings reference proximity to both Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport as regional air travel options.

Homes and housing

Avondale has experienced rapid residential and commercial growth in the years since 1980, transforming from a farming community into a major bedroom suburb for Phoenix. Homes in Avondale were built from the late 20th century through today, with most being new traditional Spanish-style homes with red clay-tiled roofs and tan stucco facades, along with some minimal ranch-style homes. Single-family homes are typically set in planned neighborhoods with homeowners associations, such as Garden Lakes, where residents share a park, walking paths and lakes with fishing and boat access.

Things to do

Avondale has ten community and neighborhood parks throughout the city, in addition to the Tres Rios Wildlife Area, described as a natural oasis for hiking, birdwatching, and outdoor recreation. The city is home to Phoenix Raceway, a NASCAR racetrack nestled in the Estrella Mountains, and the American Sports Center, one of Arizona's largest indoor multi-sport facilities with volleyball, basketball, soccer, and year-round events. Alamar Park offers 40 acres of recreation space with amenities including tennis and pickleball courts, dog parks, and a lake for urban fishing.
